Character NAME: Alicia Melchiott
Canon & MEDIUM: Valkyria Chronicles (video game)
Canon PULL-POINT: beginning of Chapter 15
Character AGE: 19
Character ABILITIES: As a foot soldier, Alicia is quite capable. She excels at scouting due to her endurance and agility for running, and she's no stranger to handling a rifle either. Within the militia, Alicia holds the rank of sergeant, so she's both used to taking orders and giving them out when push comes to shove. While she's no powerhouse, Alicia makes a perfectly respectable soldier.
As a descendant of the Valkyrian bloodline though, Alicia becomes a complete game changer. Before completely awakening, Alicia was already a remarkably fast healer; a bullet wound would heal overnight completely. When she awakes to being a Valkyria, it becomes outright rapid healing, any wounds she might sustain completely healing within seconds. As a Valkyria, Alicia becomes a super soldier in every definition of the word; her reflexes, speed, strength, and defense all rise to inhuman levels. She can dodge heavy artillery and tank fire or block them with a shield, cross an entire field in a matter of minutes, and wield a lance that's more than twice her height and made of stone with ease. With the lance she can choose to launch it as a projectile over great distances or shoot highly concentrated energy beams instead. If she so chooses to, she can even act as a humanoid bomb, and the explosion would decimate miles upon miles of land. The Valkyria are revered in her world, and given how her power could easily decimate an entire army there without much of a scratch on her, it's easy to see why.
Character HISTORY: Alicia @ the Valkyria Chronicles wiki!
Character PERSONALITY: A kind and warm-hearted girl--that's the sort of first impression one would make after meeting Alicia. It wouldn't be incorrect in the slightest too. Alicia is friendly and amicable, always walking with a certain cheer in her step and warmth in her smile. She's not exactly what you'd call an endless ray of sunshine or eternally optimistic, but she tries her best to keep her chin up. If she can, she'd try to look for the brighter side of things rather than dwell for too long on the negative. Rather than intentionally turn away from the bad, she faces it head on, hoping to come out alright in the end. As Alicia goes through battle after battle in war, she continues to choose to hope for a better tomorrow, that her actions will eventually return peace to her country. She hopes, and she comes to believe that hope is one of the most powerful things a person can use.
Sometimes her decisions are rash and not entirely well-thought out, but they all come from her heart. While she always means well, there are times where Alicia jumps to conclusions or misunderstands things. She'll take a strangely-worded compliment as an insult, or quickly decide that a man sketching fish is actually a code for enemy spies. While she cares for all her teammates dearly, they're undeniably a group of oddballs whereas she's rather level-headed, and dealing with their behavior can quickly exasperate her. People who wear her patience out can expect a sharp-tongued response. On the other hand, her quick thinking is also what gets her to react quickly in dangerous situations. While she may have only gone through basic military training, she knows her stuff when it comes to reacting to enemy soldiers; get down low, try to use familiar terrain to your advantage, etc. Regardless, when it comes to peaceful situations this habit can get the best of her. Her thoughts often run away with her, and her imagination will have lead her somewhere completely different than where the conversation was actually headed.
Alicia has quite the maternal instinct when it comes to other people. She worries, frets, and overall just enjoys taking care of other people. It was this quality combined with her friendly nature that helped establish her position of authority within her squad. Frankly, she's just used to taking care of people as she often took care of other children at the orphanage when she was younger. It's evident that she simply just enjoys it too; seeing the people she cares for happy makes her happy, so she does what she can to make sure they are. At her nature, she's a simple girl with simple wishes. Her lifelong dream is to own her own bakery, and her ideal picture of a successful business is imagining a family happily eating the bread she made. However, it's also because of this maternal desire to see her loved ones happy that she often butts into other people's business without even realizing it. It's all out of concern and goodwill, but there aren't many people who can say they enjoy having a nagging mother scold them and such.
Deep down, Alicia is honestly quite lonely. She never had a family, never had people she could always go to confide in no matter what. When deeply troubled, she has a hard time expressing her feelings to others and often tries to brush off her troubles instead with a smile. Despite her quick thinking and level-headedness, her stubborn nature makes her prone to dealing with major problems on her own or tough it out rather than ask for help. More than anything though, what Alicia wants is a family. Because she never had the sort of people who would do anything to protect her, she in turn knows that she would do anything to protect the people she loved, even if it meant sacrificing her own life. That's why she tried to protect her hometown so fiercely and why she came to see her squadron as a sort of family.
After awakening to her Valkyrian blood, Alicia views the value of her life differently and takes it with a grain of salt. A close friend of hers, someone she trusted, shot her to activate her Valkyria blood for one, and her fellow soldiers practically worship her while begging her to save their country. It scares her to be so different from humans, and the only person who could even hope to understand her position was an enemy soldier. At her current canon point, Alicia is hopelessly confused; now that she is a Valkyria, she doesn't know what she's supposed to do with her life.

First PERSON: Here!
Third PERSON: To be taken away from the middle of one war only to be thrown into another one--it wasn't a pleasant feeling or experience, that much was for sure. It just didn't sit well with Alicia; while she had been confused--to say the least--about how things stood in Gallia, she never just wanted to abandon it. She had a home to defend, people to protect... loved ones to come back to. Or at the very least, that's what she thought she had. Being one of the legendary Valkyria, well. That changed a lot of things. No matter how much she wanted to ignore it or pretend it never happened, even in a completely different world, it was still on her mind.
So it was with a heavy heart that Alicia looked at her weapon: the Valkyrian lance, still in its compact, dormant form. While she could have chosen any other weapon in that bizarre room... It felt like running away. And maybe no one would have blamed her for it, but she would have blamed herself. Besides, if she better learned how to use her powers while she was here, maybe it would prove to be of help on the battlefield back home too. Sure she had defeated Selvaria Bles, but she had no idea how. She didn't remember a thing about it, and she didn't want something like that to happen again. At least if she had control, she'd know what she was doing to help.
And that was that. Alicia didn't like the fact that she was her one bit, but it was an opportunity. She had to learn more about herself, her powers, so she could be even more of help back home; she had to be able to live up to titles like "savior" and "god child". Alicia may have been more of a weapon than a girl at that point, but she had to do what she could.
She wouldn't give up just yet.
