Character Name: Alicia Melchiott
Canon: Valkyria Chronicles
Canon Background: Alicia @ the Valkyria Chronicles wiki
AU Background: Alicia initially grew up in an orphanage in a small town in Britain. While she had no family of her own, her childhood was relatively happy and uneventful. She completed high school along with some brief military training, and went on to study baking so she could eventually open up her own bakery.
However, with the threat of war looming over Britain, Alicia has also taken up being part of the local Town Watch when she can. Due to her lack of a real family, she sees the entire town as her family and would thus do anything to protect them. What she doesn't know though is that she is actually descendent from an ancient race of extremely powerful beings, the Valkyria.
The actual origins of the Valkyria is vague and no longer known, but in truth they are descendents of the Emperor of Mankind. One of his sons, Magnus, sent off his own children far away to avoid having them be corrupted like he himself was. Over time they forgot their true ancestry and used their magical powers for their own means and devices. It was these people who would eventually become the Valkyria in the future.
Personality: A bright and cheerful girl--that's the sort of first impression one would make after meeting Alicia. It wouldn't be incorrect in the slightest too. Alicia is friendly, amicable, and upbeat to nearly everyone she meets. She's not exactly what you'd call an endless ray of sunshine or eternally optimistic, but she tries her best to keep her chin up. If she can, she'd try to look for the brighter side of things rather than dwell for too long on the negative. Rather than intentionally turn away from the bad, she faces it head on, hoping to come out alright in the end. When all is said and done, Alicia is the kind of person who chooses to hope for the better tomorrow rather than dwell on the past.
Sometimes her decisions are rash and not entirely well-thought out, but they all come from her heart. While she always means well, there are times where Alicia jumps to conclusions or misunderstands things. She'll take a strangely-worded compliment as an insult, or quickly decide that a man sketching fish is actually a code for enemy spies. On the other hand, her quick thinking is also what gets her to react quickly in dangerous situations. While she may have only gone through basic military training, she knows her stuff when it comes to reacting to enemy soldiers; get down low, try to use familiar terrain to your advantage, etc. Regardless, when it comes to peaceful situations this habit can get the best of her. Her thoughts often run away with her, and her imagination will have lead her somewhere completely different than where the conversation was actually headed.
Alicia has quite the maternal instinct when it comes to other people. She worries, frets, and overall just enjoys taking care of other people. It was this quality combined with her friendly nature that helped establish her position of authority within her squad. Frankly, she's just used to taking care of people as she often took care of other children at the orphanage when she was younger. However, it's also because of this that she often butts into other people's business without even realizing it. It's all out of concern and goodwill, but there aren't many people who can say they enjoy having a nagging mother scold them and such. At times, Alicia is very much like that.
Deep down, Alicia is honestly quite lonely. She never had a family, never had people she could always go to confide in no matter what. When deeply troubled, she has a hard time expressing her feelings to others and often tries to brush off her troubles instead with a smile. More than anything though, what Alicia wants is a family. Because she never had the sort of people who would do anything to protect her, she in turn knows that she would do anything to protect the people she loved, even if it meant sacrificing her own life. That's why she tried to protect her hometown so fiercely, why she came to see her squadron as a sort of family, and why she did indeed attempt to give her life to protect those she cared for.
Combat Style: Alicia is, first and foremost, a foot soldier. Using the terms of Valkyria Chronicles, she's best at being what you would call a Scout. What she lacks in direct firepower she makes up for with the endurance and agility needed to run great distances. Despite not being the main force of power, she's certainly no stranger to using a rifle either. As part of her Valkyrian heritage, she also tends to recover from wounds pretty quickly--nothing lifesaving of course, but it can come in handy when dodging enemy bullet fire.
As a Valkyrur, Alicia is capable of superhuman feats. She has the speed to dodge heavy tank fire, her quick recovery turns into full out rapid healing, and she can even do feats such as deflecting tank bullets. With the lance she can shoot powerful blasts of energy in the form of beams; these beams are powerful enough to completely destroy tanks, and of course kill other people. It would not be impossible for Alicia to decimate an entire army by herself.
Kingdom or Faction: Britain
Primary Role: Soldier

Tarot Cards: Past: The Lovers, Present: Strength, Future: The Star
Title: The Valkyria (after she awakens as one at least)
Artifacts: There are two very important items that are tied to Alicia: the Valkyrian lance and shield. (The ones Alicia acquires in the game look like this.) They are relics of the Valkyrian race, and most are found through things such as archaeological excavations. In canon they are made with a very pure and refined ore called Ragnite; not even modern technology can refine it to the point that the lances and shields are made with. Though each one has slightly unique designs, they all bear the distinctive Valkyrian spiral design.
When in its 'dormant' mode, the lance is compact and more like a large handle rather than a weapon; as for the shield, it is miniaturized and compact as well, with the middle of the shield slightly protruding out while surrounded by different rings. These items can only be activated by a Valkyrur, and when done the lance will grow and expand exponentially, about twice the size of an average person. The shield will grow into a full-sized shield as well. As a lance, it can be thrown as a deadly projectile; it is also capable of shooting highly-concentrated beams of energy. The shield, while obviously for defensive purposes, can also be used for offense as the middle of the shield protrudes while the rings/layers of the shield spin in opposite directions--basically, you could dig something pretty painful into an enemy.
Of course, all those things are only capable in the hands of a Valkyria as the Ragnite core will not react to anyone unless they have Valkyrian blood in their veins. In the hands of anyone else, the lance and shield are simply archaeological finds with a great deal of history behind them. They're a few of the remaining proofs that the Valkyria once existed. Regardless, the spear and shield would only be of interest to those with a taste for the historical and ancient in their dormant forms.
Setting Considerations: I suppose it's obvious at this point, but for Alicia I would really like to bring in the concept of the Valkyria race to IS, or at least something similar. While human in appearance, they're a race of beings with innately superior abilities. They can both withstand and deflect things like heavy artillery, have the ability to heal almost instantly, and shoot tank-destroying lasers. Taking the AU history I provided, I think it would be possible for them to have some sort of backstory and incorporate them in. While not as necessary, I'd also like to bring in the concept of Ragnite or something similar. For the sake of Alicia-related things, it would just need to be a special kind of ore that the mysterious Valkyrian weapons are made of.
Notes: None that I can think of!
Sample Post: Question: You are about to embark upon a grand journey. What do you carry in your satchel?
Let's see now... I'd need supplies like money, food, and spare clothes if they would fit of course. It would be good to have something like a First Aid kit too.
Question: Your liege has called upon you to perform a task of great importance. Upon what do you rely to complete it?
What do I rely on? Well, I'd definitely be counting on my comrades of course! I know that we'd all be able to pull through together in the end.
Question: What is love to you?
Love? W-Well, it's like... To me, love is wanting the best for someone and trying your best to take care of them and protect them.
Question: It is the eve of a great battle, and the troops have made camp for the night. Where are you and what are you doing?
Somewhere trying to make dinner. Without someone there to take care of them, those troops won't feed themselves!
Question: For what cause are you willing to sacrifice yourself?
Without a doubt, for the people I love.
Question: What do you want people to remember about you after you are gone?
What I want people to remember about me, huh? Well, I can't say I'd be too upset if they remembered my delicious bread!
Question: A celebration is being held in your honor. Lavish food, gifts, and even people are offered at your table. What do you take or do in celebration of your achievements?
Whoa now, that's a bit too much for a celebration! I'd be flattered, but the food is really all I'd need. After that, I'd be having a good time with everyone else of course!
Question: Everything you love and held dear has been taken from you in the blink of an eye. What do you do?
No matter what, I wouldn't give up hope. No matter how bleak or how terrible it might be, I can't lose sight of the fact that things can always improve.
Question: What are your aspirations?
It's my dream to become an established baker with my own bakery and everything! After that, well... I think I'd really love to have a family.
Question: At the end of the journey, what remains in your satchel?
Well after a journey like this, there might be a whole lot of new things in my satchel instead!
